Jo McGilloway lives and works in Colchester, Essex. From a young age she loved to paint. She has vivid childhood memories of holidays spent at her grandparents cottage in North Norfolk. Her grandfather was the gardener at the 'big house' next door and along with her sisters, she was allowed free rein of the large garden where he worked, instilling a love of nature and the countryside.
Having some form of creative outlet at each stage of life has always been very important to her wellbeing.
Over the years she has explored many different mediums, her current preferences being watercolour and pastels, but she often uses a variety of media to create her work.
After attending a local printmaking course she discovered a passion for monoprinting, a printmaking technique often favoured by painters. This led on to several monoprinting and collage workshops which she has found truly inspiring.
Colour , pattern and form are usually the starting point for her work, creating paintings, drawings and prints in her garden studio.
